Maid Medical Examination (MME): What Employers Need to Know

The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) requires foreign domestic workers (FDWs) in Singapore to undergo a medical examination every six months as a condition of their work permit. The examination screens for pregnancy and certain infectious diseases, and results are submitted directly to MOM — employers are responsible for ensuring this is done within the required timeframe.
Practical tips
Track the six-month window
The examination is due within a specific period of the work permit issue date and every six months after. Missing the window can affect the permit's validity.
Bring the right documents
The FDW's work permit and identification are typically required at the examination — check current requirements before the visit to avoid a repeat trip.
Understand what's screened
The examination generally covers pregnancy testing and screening for specified infectious diseases as mandated by MOM — ask the clinic beforehand for the current checklist.
Results go to MOM, not just the employer
Clinics submit results through the official channel. Keep your own copy of the report for your records as the employer.
When to see a doctor
Schedule the examination well before the due date to allow time for any follow-up if needed. Employers should also arrange a medical check promptly if their FDW reports feeling unwell, independent of the routine schedule.
